Slate Gray and Off-white Transitional Kitchen

UK cabinetmakers McCarron & Company have done a great job in this kitchen of combining traditional and modern design elements. All drawer-fronts are inset flat slabs with drawer-fronts being simple shaker-style doors.

Barn Kitchen

What I like about this renovated timber-frame barn kitchen is the appropriate utilitarian design elements.  The white inset cabinets in the background are certainly traditional, the light fixtures are practical and feel at home in the barn, as does the iron-legged island with it's thick solid wood top.

Contemporary American Colonial Home

For me, this is a 'surprise and delight' kitchen.  The kitchen in this American colonial has mahogany counters, a table on casters, and chairs designed by by Arne Jacobsen.

Featuring Harvey Jones Kitchens

Today we are featuring a few kitchens from the UK company Harvey Jones Kitchens.
All of these cabinets are face-framed, or as they say in the UK, in frame cabinets.  The simple shaker style and the hardware give them all a not-too-traditional-but-not-too-contemporary look.  Well done Harvey Jones!

Contemporary English Kitchen Furniture

This contemporary Martin Moore &Company kitchen is a wonderful example of how to combine traditional and contemporary elements to create a transitional look.  The cabinets are inset face-framed in what appears to be a stained oak.  Drawer fronts are flat slabs and the doors are a variation of shaker style doors.

Contemporary Cottage by Martin Moore & Company

Martin Moore & Company have got the design very right in this contemporary thatched cottage.  An excellent example of bringing together traditional and contemporary elements to create this transitional space.  The lighting, the choice of colors, the choice of knobs and pulls; it's all right!

Karin Blake - Minimalist Transitional Design

Today we are featuring more of the work of Malibu, California designer, Karin Blake.
I have called her work a kind of minimalist transitional design because of the simple clean, and in some cases narrow, lines and the flat slab door and drawer-fronts.
Please note that these are still face-framed cabinets with inset door and drawer-fronts.  The scaled down face-frame design element is key to the overall look of tying together the traditional with the minimalist design.

If you try to duplicate this look without the stiles and rails of the face-frame, using frame-less cabinets,  you will end up feeling very dissapointed; it will look like you got it half right.
